This is a compelling story that should be an encouragement to church staff and volunteers about how God is on the move. He is bringing the mission field into our communities. God moved a young woman from Vietnam to a school in North Carolina and moved people from Korea decades ago so that Wendy and Nelson could now know Jesus.Nelson was born in Durham, North Carolina. He holds a Bachelors in Chemistry from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina and just like Wendy he too is employed with AstraZeneca. Nelson is also very involved in the community. This is part 2 of the story between Wendy and Nelson story. If you missed last week’s episode you’ll want to go back and catch it as you’ll see God used Wendy in making today’s episode with Nelson possible."I was certainly exploring my spirituality at a certain point. I just recently moved from Asheville to Durham to the triangle and so I was getting adjusted to working a new job. I had just left my friend group and was struggling to find a new one. Outside of work, there wasn't much going on in my life aside from, occasional visits with family, but other than that, it was pretty lonely, so I started reaching out thinking about going to Churches and religious organizations to see how spirituality fit would fit into my life. Because I would say I certainly was agnostic until I met Wendy and it really wasn't until she took me to church that I really felt that I could identify with Jesus." - Nelson"I think it was very easy for me to get caught up in the smaller things in life. The Superficial things in life, and it really wasn't until I met Wendy and I went to church with her that there's so much more to what we can do with our lives. There's so much more we can do to serve our community and there's so much more that we can do to help others and spread the word of Jesus and to learn that was a very humbling experience for me." - NelsonAlso mentioned in this episode:The importance of serving in your local church to have a sense of connection
Being a part of a small group is a source of encouragement and community for Nelson

From the moment of creation, God's purpose has been to reach the people in His world and them to come together and worship him. This isn't about targeting certain people groups but we do want representation. The church today has so emphasized a program called "discipleship." We are told to "go" and make disciples. Jesus said "as you are going, make disciples." And what we've done today is bring it into the church. What we've done is turned it on it's head. We talk about discipleship programs and I don't think we should. The more outward focused we are the closer our walk will be with Jesus. - Gary VetI tell pastors, you are not the pastor of a church, you are a pastor of the Church. It's our collective responsibility to reach every man woman and child with the Gospel where they live work and play. We are together to own the lostness of this territory. - Gary VetGary and Kevin discussed John 17 and Jesus' prayer for unity. The only way the Gospel is going to penetrate our region is if we are unified. Gary mentioned how he believes that pastors are the last to grasp this doctrine of the church. Our congregations understand it. They work with people who attend other churches and sometimes they are scratching their heads wondering "Why don't our churches work together?"Dialogue will lead to understanding.
Understanding will lead to trust.
Trust will lead to us working together to change our region.
Jesus intentionally mentioned the word "ecclesia" which means church for the first time in a way that would make his listeners think of way Alexander the Great conquered the known world. He would send a group of philosophers, teachers, mentors called an "ecclesia" into a new territory until the barbarians would walk like a Greek, talk like a Greek. It's like Jesus was saying "Alexander build a kingdom that lasted 500 years, but I'm building my "ecclesia." The way that Jesus has done that is by sending out his people to act like Jesus where they go so that people will begin to act, talk, and think like Jesus. Having gone to India over 50 times, Pastor Kevin, of Global Hope India shares insights that God has showed him and how it is applicable to reach any people group.Living the Dream is based off of Revelation 7:9-12. That's the dream we are working toward. To help the local church reach every tribe, nation, and tongue with the Gospel.Kevin shares the experience of his first mission's trip where he learned that God had taken him to India to change his life. 21 years ago, if you wanted to reach internationals you would have to pack your bags, get a passport, and fly across the world. Now God has moved millions of internationals into our neighborhoods and communities. Know your numbers:Indians are quickly becoming one of the largest communities in the Triangle area.
The Triangle cricket association has over 100 teams involving more than 1500 players.
The Triangle area of North Carolina, Houston, New York, New Jersey, San Francisco has a large population of Indians
Our heart is not just for the people of India but all internationals
Our nation has a lot of racial tension and tension about immigration. Whichever side of the debate you are on the call has been given to the local Church to reach it's community. We discuss future episodes and themes we will cover in this podcast. Also check out these articles by Global Hope India:Why you Need Internationals in Your ChurchThree FREE Things Your Church can Do Right Now to Reach InternationalsFive Areas In Which Your Church Can Represent InternationalsLet's Talk!
